We begin in the United Kingdom where a “technical issue” has affected air traffic control systems and left thousands of passengers stranded.
Issues started on Monday when the National Air Traffic Service’s automatic processing of flight plans malfunctioned, and had to be handled manually.
It also meant that the number of planes landing needed to be temporarily restricted.
The glitch lasted several hours but was fixed on the same day.
Despite this, airports and airlines have warned that delays could continue for a few days.
According to aviation data, around eight percent of flights departing UK airports and nine percent of incoming flights were affected on Monday.
Passengers due to fly have been asked to head to airports only after confirming that their flights will depart as scheduled.
